About the project
The DEMOREG-EU project investigates the long-term effects of key demographic processes – population ageing, migration, low fertility and depopulation – on regional development and economic convergence within the European Union. Through quantitative analysis, the project integrates a comparative regional perspective into an analytical model to examine the extent to which demographic changes contribute to convergence or divergence of economic performance across EU regions. A particular focus is placed on peripheral and demographically disadvantaged regions, including the Croatian context. Using data from Eurostat, GGP, ESS and regional development indicators, the project will develop models that link demographic trends to economic outcomes. The results will contribute to the scientific debate on the sustainability of European development, and offer recommendations for designing more effective regional and population policies. The project promotes an interdisciplinary approach, international cooperation and scientific visibility through publications, conferences and dissemination activities.
